This is turning into a daily barrage. The Indian media, especially Times of India, continue to do hit jobs on America and the military.
This time it’s a show piece on American military crimes that have already been well documented by the world media over the past 4 years. Sub title is “US forces Book of Shame”
Of course there is no shame in obvious bias and hypocrisy. There is no other point to this reporting, except to fuel the anti-American feelings and brainwashing the locals.
Is this really news? Worth repeating over and over again? Where is the balance? Are there no crimes ever being committed by Indian military? or the Russians? Or Iranians? …
Where is the list of thousands of good things that the American military has done around the world. No where to be found.
No mention of the fact that yes, there were some crimes committed, and yes, they were prosecuted and sentenced appropriately. But given the size of the US military, the small percentage is hardly worth mentioning. No mention of the fact that these kinds of crimes can and do happen in any military. But at least, once reported, the American criminals are brought to justice.
This is in stark contrast to India, where, the criminals can go scot free due to the openly corrupt system, from police, to judges, to politicians.
We don’t need any balance or perspective on this. We just need to know how bad America and American military is.
Here is another piece, obviously grabbed from some syndicate in USA, chronicling Guantanamo Bay’s known stories . This technique is also very common here. They’ll grab selected syndicated columns that are anti-American or Anti-Bush, wherever, when they need to fill empty space.
Deepak Chopra is a regular now after his debut as a guest editor of that paper a few months ago. Chumming it up with Al Gore, he now does nothing but Bush bashing. He seems to be well out of his domain now and should really stay with his popular shtick of “mental health through meditation” mantra.
Needless to say, it’s very annoying to find these type of hit jobs, without the proper perspectives and to throw only one sided slaps, without any counterpoints. It’s quite obvious that these are intended to do nothing but inflame the negative sentiment, not to report the news.
Looks like the Indian media is taking its cue and aligned itself completely with the American left wing media outlets like the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times. That is the real shame.
